We’re building the future of space connectivity, and we need curious minds like yours
At Aperio, we’re not just building technology, we’re redefining how the world stays connected through space.
We believe in curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Whether you’re developing cutting-edge software or helping shape our vision, your work here has real impact.
Be part of real satellite missions. Shape the future of connectivity from low Earth orbit and beyond.
Collaborate with talented people from different cultures and disciplines. Diversity drives how we think and build.
Join a place where curiosity is valued. Expand your skills and take on new challenges with every project.
We work closely and communicate openly. Your voice matters and your ideas help shape our direction.
🕒 Full-time or Working Student | 🏠 Hybrid (Darmstadt, Germany)
Help us design and run advanced simulations to test satellite communication protocols in real-world space environments. You’ll work with our network and mission teams to shape the backbone of our inter-satellite connectivity.
Build and maintain network simulations to validate routing and communication protocols
Model real-world inter-satellite and satellite-to-ground links
Use tools like NS-3 or OMNeT++ to simulate large-scale networks
Analyze results to optimize system performance and identify bottlenecks
Collaborate with mission, operations, and software teams to align simulations with real use cases
Strong skills in Python for scripting and data analysis
Solid understanding of network protocols, ideally OSI Layer 1–4
Basic familiarity with network simulators like NS-3 or OMNeT++
Some exposure to orbital mechanics or satellite communication principles
Proficiency in C++ or strong willingness to learn it
Familiarity with Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) and the Bundle Protocol
Experience running simulations in high-performance computing or cluster environments
You’ve worked on complex simulations with space-like constraints
A natural problem-solver with a solution-oriented mindset
Curious, proactive, and not afraid to experiment
Comfortable working independently and asking questions when needed
A clear communicator who enjoys cross-functional teamwork
Passionate about space technologies, networks, or both
You don’t tick every box? No worries — if you’re excited about our mission, we’d love to hear from you.
Interested in this role?
We’d love to hear from you! Please send us your CV and a brief motivation letter telling us why you’re excited about working with us at Aperio Space.
🕒 Full-time | 🏠 Hybrid (Darmstadt, Germany)
Join us to build secure and efficient onboard software for satellites. You’ll develop embedded systems and mission-critical code that powers reliable space communication under extreme conditions.
Develop firmware and embedded software for onboard satellite systems
Implement and optimize network protocols across all layers (from hardware to application)
Ensure fault-tolerance, security, and robustness in low-resource environments
Support integration testing and work with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups
Tune code performance for radiation-hardened systems with tight constraints on memory and CPU
Strong experience with C/C++, especially for embedded systems
Understanding of low-level programming (e.g., microcontrollers, memory-mapped I/O, telemetry/telecommand)
Familiarity with real-time OS (RTOS) or embedded software architectures
Comfort with optimizing code for limited resources — memory, CPU, power
Experience with Rust, Python, or Fortran in embedded or scientific computing contexts
Exposure to NASA cFS, FreeRTOS, RTEMS, or similar frameworks
Knowledge of ECSS or other space-related software standards
Previous work with HIL, GDB, static/dynamic analysis tools, or CI pipelines for embedded environments
Familiarity with mission operations tools like ESA’s Nanosat MO Framework
You enjoy solving low-level challenges and thinking close to the metal
You care about software safety, especially in systems that can’t fail
You’re comfortable working hands-on with hardware and test equipment
You can communicate clearly — in code, documentation, and with teammates
You bring structure to complexity and adapt well in fast-paced environments
Bonus: You’re fascinated by aerospace or space systems, just like us
You don’t tick every box? No worries — if you’re excited about our mission, we’d love to hear you.
